Bangalore: The Karnataka State Junior Doctors’ Association 2008-09 has threatened to go on strike from January 20 if the Government does not increase their stipend.
Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Arun Kumar N., vice-president of the association, said that the stipend of interns, postgraduates and super-specialty students had not been increased in three years.
“We have been raising the issue by submitting memorandums to the officials and Ministers. But there has been no response,” he said.
Mahesh Babu, general secretary of the association, said that compared to the junior doctors in other States, the stipend here was meagre.
Interns get just Rs. 6,000 a month, postgraduate students Rs. 11,000 and super-speciality students get Rs. 13,000.
Dr. Arun Kumar said that the State Government had failed to comply with its order dated June 1, 2006, which said the stipend had to be revised periodically.
